Lead Design Technologist - REMOTE
Company Summary Job Summary Essential Functions o Lead, plan and manage design technology activities across the entire product life cycle o Lead and mentor a team of design technologists o Act as a thought leader with in-depth knowledge of design technology and design system best practices and standards, while advocating for people who interact with our products. o Effectively manage and prioritize design system activities through ambiguous and fast-changing environments. o Work closely with business leaders, product teams, and design, to identify design system strategy and approach o Oversee and manage design system strategy and product-level design systems, encompassing overarching documentation and guidelines, a design library, and front-end component library. o Translate visual and interaction design into working web components for our design system. o Actively participate in concept development and design ideation. o Build out accessibility-compliant, production-ready components. o Write design and technical documentation to communicate how a design token, UI element, and component behaves, functions, and provide contexts for its use. o Help designers navigate technical scenarios and limitations and provide feedback for their design solutions in regard to their technical feasibility. o Produce high-fidelity code prototypes for user research and internal demos. o Evangelize for design systems and communicate how the business, product, designers, and engineers can benefit from investing in a design system. o Required to perform duties outside of normal work hours based on business needs. Job Complexities o Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices and established policies and procedures o Troubleshoots a wide variety of complex problems and identifies solutions within broad application of functional expertise o Works on a diverse range of problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors and an understanding of current business and technological trends o Provides direction to employees within the boundaries of established policies o Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. o On a regular basis, initiates corrective action needed to resolve complex, critical issues. o Provides input to and may develop operational plans and works with senior management to ensure that plans are integrated with broader strategies Supervision Received or Extended o May supervise small group of employees who have responsibility for tactical daily operations and project outcomes. o Works under general supervision of a manager or senior manager and is competent to perform most aspects of the job independently. o Enlists expertise of more senior level team members and leverages additional resources when needed to resolve issues. Knowledge and Skills/Technology Used o Proficiency with modern front-end web languages; HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, JavaScript including responsive design techniques. o Experienced with Angular, React and Material UI. o Experience maintaining a design system and component documentation o Fluency with mockup and prototyping tools such as Figma, or equivalent o Fluency with Storybook o Fluency in best practices for web-based information architecture and interaction design, user-centered design process, as well as a fundamental knowledge of user experience principles and techniques. o Be resourceful and creative to overcome obstacles and turn challenges into opportunities. o Ability to work efficiently and demonstrate a bias for action in a fast paced, often ambiguous environment. o Exceptional problem-solving abilities, clear communication skills, and solid design instincts who can translate their designs into engineering-focused solutions. o Ability to present a strong rationale for design decisions. Typical Education o Bachelor's degree in design, human-computer interaction (HCI), or equivalent combination of education and experience Typical Range of Experience o 8
