COUNTY EXECUTIVE OFFICE - RISK MANAGEMENT SAFETY AND LOSS PREVENTIONThe, is part of the County Executive Office (CEO).
The Office preserves and protects the human and capital assets of the County of Orange to allow County departments and agencies to meet their missions without unnecessary cost.
The Safety and Loss Prevention Program strives to ensure a safe environment for County employees and members of the public who visit County facilities and receive County services.
Staff working in this program are engaged in creating countywide policy, providing tools (including training) to support County agencies and departments in the implementation of their respective programs, conducting assessments and making recommendations for improvement, and analyzing safety hazard trends.
THE OPPORTUNITYThe Assistant Safety and Health Manager will report to the Manager of the Safety & Loss Prevention Program (County Safety Manager).
This position will assist with the administration, coordination and management of countywide safety and loss prevention programs, as well as projects to meet program goals under the general direction of the County Safety Manager.
Major responsibilities will include:
Supervising, leading and developing staff to achieve Safety and Loss Prevention Program goals, as well as helping them meet their own career objectives.
Monitoring the quality of work products produced by the Safety and Loss Prevention Program team to ensure technical soundness, relevancy, responsiveness, and consistency and alignment with County and Safety and Loss Prevention Program goals.
Leading and managing assigned countywide safety programs and initiatives.
Leading and managing more complex projects in support of specific department and agency customers.
Meeting with department and agency senior and executive leadership to understand their goals and ensuring alignment with County and Safety and Loss Prevention Program goals.
Creating and developing policies, procedures and/or guidelines.
Conducting assessments or audits for compliance and risk reduction.
Conducting investigations for more serious or complex incidents.
Making recommendations for system improvements and risk reduction.
A hybrid work schedule may be available for this position.
This may revert to a regular on-site schedule depending on business needs.
Desirable Qualifications & Core CompetenciesThe ideal candidate will possess a over five (5) years of significant safety related experience and knowledge of being compliant with applicable regulations and laws, mitigating safety risks, and utilizing data-driven decision-making methods; must include three (3) or more years of progressively responsible lead or supervisory experience successfully leading programs and teams towards a common goal.
In addition, while not required, the ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree or higher in a safety or public health-related field; and/or a safety-related certification, such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
In addition, the ideal candidate will have thorough knowledge of and practical experience in the following core competencies:
Technical Expertise Applying and interpreting safety laws and regulations, particularly requirements by the California Occupational Safety and Health Administration (Cal-OSHA), National Fire Protection Association and the American National Standards Institute.
Applying auditing and assessment techniques to determine compliance with regulations.
Interacting with safety regulatory enforcement agencies, such as Cal-OSHA.
Understanding and application of safety and risk principles.
Setting and monitoring standards for work product quality and holding others to these standards.
Using and applying analytical methods (including statistics, root-cause, etc.
) to determine trends, associations, and causation.
Creativity Ability to think outside of the box and being open to new ideas.
Using and applying transfer of technology.
Willingness to take calculated risks in decision-making.
Interpersonal Skills Using emotional intelligence to effectively communicate and engage others.
Applying active listening techniques to fully understand issues and productively managing conflicts.

Managing hourly staff who may belong to collective bargaining units.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster.
